Finding a Perfect Destination City
When you want to go away on a vacation but feel like you’ve exhausted your list of places you want to see, it might be time to go back to the drawing board. Is there a city you have been to, but didn’t get to see everything? Is there a region of the country you want to visit a little bit more in depth? Have you considered revisiting a city you lived, but perhaps staying at a different venue this time? Instead of staying in a large hotel or a motel with a franchise name on it, try something more local, like a Bed and Breakfast.
Believe it or not, staying at a bed and Breakfast can be part of your vacation in itself. Some of the B & Bs are historic building, known for their past uses in a city. In big cities there are old houses that used to house the nuns and priests for the Catholic Diocese that have been converted in to a B & B for guests. Other homes used to belong to founding fathers or wealthy businessmen from days past. Staying in those B & B is like getting a mini-history lesson while you enjoy the stay within their old walls. Some Bed and Breakfasts are even known for being haunted locations!
Are you sold on the idea of trying to find a Bed and Breakfast to rest your head at night, but you still need to find a city? Take in to consideration a few more details. What time of year is it? What activities do you want to do while you are vacationing? In the winter months, you might want to do nothing more than go someplace quiet where you can read a book in front of a fireplace. Or else you want to hit the slopes in a region for some day skiing, but then go back where you can rest and not listen to a bunch of teenagers parade up and down the hotel hallways, prowling for the opposite sex. A Bed and Breakfast is the perfect answer on escaping. Check out what cities are close to you with great ski conditions and book your room.
Another thing to consider on your destination city is how long do you have to stay away? For a weekend trip, you probably don’t want to go more than a couple of hours away. Spending half of your time driving when you should be relaxing is not much fun – unless you like to drive, that is. Weekend retreats are usually a six hour drive or less away. If flying, book a trip where you aren’t going to spend half the day laying over and waiting for multiple flights.
The last thing to consider when choosing a destination is your budget. Choose a location where you can eat without spending a fortune. And if you are driving, you’ll want it to be closer rather than farther so gas isn’t excessively expensive either. You want to have some money for a few souvenirs!
